March to the Manger and Church Holiday Schedule

Hey ya'll - I saw this info today on the church website and thought I would post it again here, and also remind you of some upcoming events.

Girls - our last bible study day will be this coming Sunday, the 6th. At 5 p.m., so we'll see you there.

Also, save the date for our Sunday School Christmas party will be December 13th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Veazey's house. There will be nursery provided for the kids, and they will need to be picked up before 8 from the church. We'll pass around a food sign-up sheet in a few weeks like we did for Thanksgiving.

MARCH TO THE MANGER

On Sunday, December 6, you have the opportunity to give a worthy, sacrificial offering for Global Missions. First Baptist Church is celebrating the climax of our Global Mission Emphasis with our annual March To The Manger. Through our Global Mission Offering we support the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions, the Annie Armstrong Offering for North American Missions, and the Dixie Jackson State Missions Offering used right here in Arkansas. All of these offerings are used to help support over 10,000 missionaries and to help strengthen gospel outreach worldwide. In addition your generous offering will help finance evangelism projects in Guatemala as well as our new church plant in Wichita, Kansas. A portion of your gifts will help feed hungry families through the World Hunger Funds of our mission boards. And lastly, you will impact the lives of many orphans and other people in Bulgaria with the love of Jesus. Let us all bring a worthy offering that comes from a heart for missions and for the world. Give – and then let us watch and be utterly amazed at what God does with and through the combined offerings of His people.

Cabot Open House Crawl and Thanksgiving Gathering

Well, it's been too long since the blog has been updated. We'll try to do a better job of keeping this up-to-date.  If you're new to the class and to this site, you'll see some pictures along the sidebar. If you would like to add yours or would like to update it, please email it to me - lhaywood@spp.org - and I will put it up there. Also, if you have a family blog that you would like to add, send that to me as well.

This coming Sunday is our annual Cabot Open House Crawl and Thanksgiving Gathering. The girls will meet at the church around 1:30, and we will come back to the church between 4 and 4:30. We will take a church van (with permission of course!), and ride around town visiting all of the Christmas open houses. It's a good time for fellowship and shopping!

Afterwards, we will meet at Calvin and Ginger's house for dinner with everybody (men and children included)! Their address is 25 Ridge Road (Go up Rockwood from Hwy 89, turn left on the second street, and they are the 7th house on the left), and they will have brisket and ham prepared for us. The following list is what everybody else has signed up for:

Salads:
Wootens

Vegetables:
McEntires - corn pudding
McDonalds - sweet potatoes
Keenans - broccoli and rice casserole
Hills - dressing
Rowes - green bean casserole

Drinks:
Wootens
Veazeys - ice and tea

Desserts:
McEntires - pumpkin pie
Steelmans
Jennifer Jones

Your Choice:
Theisings - mac n cheese
Steelmans
Haywoods - plates, napkins, cups, dinner rolls

Ya'll - my mouth is watering just thinking about all of this! It's going to be a great time of fellowship, and if there is someone you haven't seen in a while, be sure to invite them to come along!

Also, mark your calendars for December 13th. That will be our Christmas party hosted by the Veazeys, and there will be childcare provided by the church. We'll have a sign-up list for food in December, so stay tuned!

Hey girls - we're having Dessert Club this Thursday night at my house! Can't wait to see everybody. For those of you who are new, you don't need to bring anything. I'll provide the dessert.

Edit: After a summer hiatus, it's time for another Sunday School Social! This Saturday, September 12th, we're going to have a family picnic at Kerr Station Road Park beginning at 6 p.m. Everybody bring $5 and your own drinks, and we'll get pizza, play games, and let the kids run around.

Hope to see everybody there!

The park is actually located near the corner of Kerr Station Road and Campground Road. Go here to find a picture of it.

From Greg and Robin

"Greg and I want to thank everyone in the class so much for their wonderful baby gifts and generosity. We really enjoyed the fellowship on Sunday after church and getting to know everyone a little better. We both feel so blessed to be part of a great church group, and especially one full of moms and dads to offer us great advice. This is an exciting time for both of us, but also one full of questions and anxiety. It makes us feel more confident to know each of you is there to offer advice when needed! Thank you again for the baby shower and the MUCH NEEDED diapers, wipes and baby necessities!"

Anyone interested in going to Honduras?

Hey guys,
I am going back to Honduras in February, and we have a couple of spots left on our team. If any of you guys are interested or know someone who is, then let me know. The team that is going is the original McGehee team that is basically my second family (and my real family too). Oh and don't worry about not having any experience. We have farmers in the kitchen and teachers in the pharmacy, so what you currently do doesn't really matter. If you're anxious about traveling to another country, then this is the group you want to be with - all seasoned veterans who love the Honduras people, but most importantly love God.

Prayer Request for Mac

Mac is having some health issues and he needs our prayers. Melissa has asked that we pray for healing, wisdom for his doctors and comfort for Mac. Here's what Melissa wrote in the 'What's Going On' section in case you want more details:

"Mac had to have surgery to remove a kind of abscess, but because of something it is touching they couldn't do it. He may have to be sent to Germany for the surgery which could potentially have some pretty severe side effects. So please pray for healing, for wisdom for the doctors, and for him being so far from home and going through this all alone. Thanks!"

Almighty God, we know you are in control of all things. We also know that you are the Great Physician able to heal anything. We pray that you would heal Mac. We also pray you would make your presence known to him in tangible ways. Thank you for answering our prayers.
Amen.

Also, please pray for Melissa, Tre and Maya. Melissa is getting over the flu and Tre and Maya have both been sick. Maya seems to be feeling better, but Tre is running fever and experiencing some of the same symptoms Melissa had earlier this week.
